While working my way through the University of South Carolina in the early 1970s I was introduced to installing different types of flooring.
Being curious, I asked questions and researched manufacturing procedures and the different installation methods to understand the flooring I was helping to install.
This was the beginning of a lifetime studying flooring, and later, flooring failures.
After obtaining my degree from the University of South Carolina I continued to work in various jobs in the flooring industry.
I have been inspecting flooring failures or problems since 1988 as an inspector, and since 1992 as a Certified Flooring Inspector.
In March of 2009, I started the Flooring Inspectors Educational Guild to arrange training and educational classes for inspectors. Before the Educational Guild, all schools and instructors sought and depended upon recognition by manufacturers as to course content. To obtain that "approval", they had to teach only what manufacturers wanted taught.
Today, inspections are beginning to move into science as the bases for education, not manufacturer's approval.
My service area in the Southeast is:
Greenville to Columbia to Florence to Charleston South Carolina; Raleigh to Asheville to Charlotte to Wilmington North Carolina; Dalton (carpet capitial of the world) to Atlanta to Savannah Georgia and Eastern Tennessee.
